What are the benefits of having care in the home vs. through an external provider?
Care in the home is usually preferable for many reasons including, comfort; peace of mind; flexible hours; dedicated service; less transfer of colds and flus; and can often be a more cost effective alternative for elderly clients requiring care or in the case of families with two or more children.

What is the process for choosing a caregiver?
ProComfort Care will provide you with a free, no-obligation consultation.  During the consultation we will identify your needs and the kind of caregiver you might require. This is also a good time to ask any questions you might have. 

Once you decide to take the next steps, we enter into an agreement and a 20% refundable down payment is made which then sets us to work for you matching your needs with suitable caregiver candidates.  We provide you with a short list of potential caregivers that you can choose to interview. The balance is due once you have decided on a candidate. We also offer a three month guarantee to replace a caregiver at no additional cost to you should the arrangement not work out initially.

How are candidates screened?
All caregiver candidates are required to fill out a detailed application and are thoroughly interviewed by the Director of our company.  Our interviews focus on relevant work experience, common sense and integrity. 
References are taken seriously and supporting documentation is checked for authenticity. Candidates must provide proof of legal status in Canada or abroad as well as work permits and other important information.  Candidates are also required to provide updated immunization records and consent to a background search.

How does the interviewing process work?
If you decide to hire someone living in Canada we can usually bring the candidates to your home for the interviews.  If you would like to interview someone from abroad we will set up a time for a telephone interview and you can decide whether you would like to call or have the candidate call you.   We will also provide assistance with interview questions if you would like.

How long does it take to hire a caregiver?
This would depend on whether you are looking to hire hourly, part-time, full-time or live-in care.  Occasional or single-occasion help can usually be arranged quickly, but you should allow 2 to 4 weeks to hire a full or part-time caregiver; 2 to 8 weeks for a foreign live-in caregiver already in Canada and 3 to 9+ months for foreign live-in caregivers.

What are my responsibilities if I wish to employ someone directly?
In addition to the caregiver’s agreed upon net salary, you will be required to remit payroll taxes, CPP and WSIB.  ProComfort Care can assist you with these calculations. In the case of a live-in caregiver,the room and board is a taxable benefit to the caregiver and is required by Revenue Canada. You are also required to keep payroll records and provide your caregiver with a T-4. You must abide by all provincial employment labour laws.
